Cannot share files between 2 Windows 10 computers

I had 2 Win 7 computers that shared files successfully without using a homegroup and with Bitdefender Internet Security 2016 installed. Then both of these machines were upgraded to Windows 10 and they can no longer share files. I get a message that one machine is denying access to the other.

I tried using a homegroup on the Win 10 machines. I was easily able to create a homegroup on one machine but, when trying to join it on the other machine, after entering the password, I get "Windows no longer detects a homegroup on this network."

I have tried disabling Bitdefender and also upgrading Bitdefender to 2017 and neither helps.
The Peer Networking Grouping and HomeGroup Provider services are running on both machines.
Ivp6 is enabled on both machines.

I need to be able to share files either using or not using a homegroup.

    Many thanks for any help!

Have you enabled the file-sharing attributes on both PC's?

Thank you for your reply! I am really trying to access the files on one PC from the other one. I have set the sharing attributes on the folders I want to access as best I know how. Perhaps you could state in more detail what I should have done on each PC.

It makes it simpler if you have the same username + password that you logged in with on the other pc by default windows sends it to the pc your trying to connect if its the same it lets you in. You can do it without but its harder. Remove homegroup and disable ipv6 its not needed. can you see the shares on the pc ok

Each PC has a single user account with admin privileges, no password and logon screen when booting, exactly as we had under Windows 7. These PCs are in our home and we really do not want to have to bother with passwords. The computer with the files we want to share has a C: (System) drive and a D: drive containing data. We want to share the entire D: drive. Right click/share with gives "advanced sharing" as the only option. If I try to share a sub-folder on D: I get other options including Homegroup but none work

Having no password is suicide anyone get in to your network and your wide open to hackers and virus. Win10 doesnt like having no password share the drive as admin shares ie c$ d$ then connect via cmd prompt by typing net use x: \\computer\share (replace X: with the drive letter you want to assign). having the same accounts still makes it simpler

How is my wired network wide open to hackers & virus when I am running a good firewall & bitdefender on both computers. The data on the D: drive that I want to be able to access from both computers is not sensitive information. I do not share anything on the C: drive.

Does Windows 10 not allow me to share drives/folders like Windows 7 did with zero problems? Every time I booted computer 1, it had immediate access to the D: drive on computer 2. We had no passwords, have not for years. Yet we have never had a detected virus on either computer, according to scans from Bitdefender, malwarebytes and other reputable scanners.

Is there no way to share on Windows 10 without passwords?

(We are not totally without passwords - accessing sensitive data on either computer does require passwords at the time of use. There are, however, no passwords required to start Windows.)

Get rid of the Bitdenfender so called security software. That junk causes more problems than it rips people off from their money. Also Homegroup is very restricted and not as robust and able to control which folders you want to only share with certain people. Use standard network sharing.

Your gateway at home has a lot better firewall than the companies that sell the so called Internet Security packages do, which are nothing more than protecting the user from their bad habits.

Use Firefox and Chrome with the proper add-ins, you have a better chance in protecting your private information and when you make transactions online for purchasing, than the software that Bitdefender and others try to pass off as they want you to believe that it will keep people from stealing information off of your computer, which is not true, because the user is the one that ends up being the weakest link. Also majority of them have too aggressive malware scanning techniques.
