    Mysterious Win10 Home Wifi problems.

Just got a new second hand machine with win10home on it.
Worked perfectly where it was and there they used an ethernet connection.
I bring it here where we have a wi fi router for our home network.
It finds the router, accepts the password from me, logs in and works happily for a few minutes.
I get it started on downloading firefox for instance..
Then it loses the connection without any error reports or warnings.
And then claims it cannot see any available networks. (There should be two).
I have been using a USB wifi stick on it.
I've swapped three sticks in and out and it happens with them all.
    Network troubleshooter does no good.
Something must be wrong within the machine, within win10 home. The system has been stripped down. There's very little else on it.
What can I do, any ideas?

Reset network adapters. You will need to reinstall the wifi driver.
Reset Network Adapters in Windows 10

Before that, forget known networks, settings->networks and internet->wifi on the left->manage known networks, click on each network available on this page and click "forget".
Then go to the control panel to uninstall the wifi driver.

Three identical USB WiFi dongles, ones that use the same driver?
    - If so, delete the driver & let Windows re-detect the device & reinstall its driver.
Three differing USB WiFi dongles, ones that use different drivers?
    - If so, try SFC then, if necessary, a Repair install but do consider backing up drivers then reinstalling Windows 10 completely so you know what state it is in [this is a worthwhile task for any second-hand computer].

Thank you both for your suggestions. Great.
The dongles were two different manufactures.
I had reset the adapters but the 'forget' thing is a new one on me. Thank you for that. Good one.
Thanks for directing me back to SFC and such. I think I need to turn in that direction and start regular use of such things.
Those four tutorial links you've provided I will paste into an 'emergency use' manual or something and will consult it as a first port of call when I next get hassles.
I've been there before, in previous years, I know they're good.

Now this machine: I don't know what I did but it has come good. It maintains a connection. So I've been able to update it and whatnot. All seems to be fine. I do not know why.

Of great interest to me is that Try3 uses Win10 Home. ? I look down on win10 home as being somehow lesser, even kinda a 'crippled' version of Windows and my plan has been to change this machine into win10 pro which is what all my other machines are.

I just yesterday looked into upgrading it but MS wanted nearly $150 for it and I thought that a bit much.

Today I was contemplating installing Linux Mint on it in order to do better than win10 home and was just wondering how I could have my cake and eat it to and figured just keeping the win10 key would be good enough.

But seeing that stopped me in my tracks. If a windows guru is happy with win10 home then it must be essentially good enough. Might even be good reasons for having it instead of pro.

Could I ask you about that?

    :)

    Yes, I use Home.
I do not regard it as crippled in any way.

If you don't need BitLocker then there is nothing else that a run-of-the-mill user would recognise as a benefit to Pro.

    - Home does not provide built-in control of Windows update but other methods of control can be arranged on Home fairly simply.
    - I had Pro on one or two computers during the Windows 10 Preview period but never found anything to entice me to part with money for Pro.

Well thank you for that. I have had entirely the wrong idea, it seems. Home is just about all I need for sure.
According to that feature set there's nothing in the other editions that I want or need.
That is very good new. I means this old computer I've just acquired has brought me a useful licence. Very good.
If I can move the licence onto other platforms. This thing apparently has an N1996 Lenovo board in it. With an athlon64 processor there's probably more I can do with it.
    Can I move windows?
I better mark this thread as solved.
    Thanks again everyone. :)

1 my licence transfer terms ditty with links and extracts [post #16] - TenForums
2 You could search for the TenForums threads in which I believe some others have reported success in moving Windows. It's not a subject I took much notice of or made any notes about.

    Best of luck,
    Thanks for the rep,
