    Windows 10 1607 & Ethernet card question & fix

I just noticed in my networks settings under connections it Says Ethernet 2 & Wi-Fi

I cant change the name just to Ethernet & says being used. I had disabled the on board nforce as it wasn't compatible to windows 10 & uninstall the drivers then installed a realtek one. Is there a way to clear old hardware left over in the registry? i search for Ethernet 2 & saw realtek nic card & also saw old settings Local Area Connection 9,8,7 etc from windows 7 & deleted all of them I also deleted Ethernet 2 & uninstalled nic card & tried to reinstall it same thing goes to Ethernet 2. I did see my old nforce in registry & delete it as well as it disabled in bios. I not see just Ethernet in registry so I wonder why it's used as I cant rename it.

    Thanks

It will clear out on its own. The so called Registry tools are a hit or miss. Just have to remember to backup your registry and OS to a Restore point before using something like CCleaner.

I got it fixed by going into device manager looked for disabled devices & saw my old WiFi card & deleted it from there & renamed the Wi-Fi 2 to Wi-Fi, I didn't find my old Ethernet nforce network card in there but using regedit I searched for Ethernet 2 & saw it & renamed it to Ethernet & worked. While I was in there i not see any strings with Ethernet or Wi-Fi but did see Local Area Connection 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 from Windows 7 & tried to delete them & worked but came back after reboot so I assume Windows 10 using them old strings for something. Just strange after upgrade all this happens from Windows 10 1511 to 1607 ...

It has nothing to do with Windows 10, so stop trying to make up some type of analogy. All Operating Systems number their devices sequentially if they are the same device when reinstalled. If you want to change the name, just go into the adapters and change it. Uninstalled devices and the drivers clear out of the Registry after Windows does its houskeeping when you reboot or boot back up.

Nothing strange about you. You stated why you are seeing that information. If you do not want it there, then do a clean install of Windows 10. Nothing has changed since Windows 98.
