    Netgear Nightawk wi-fi install

Mornin all , when I try to install a Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 Modem Router , the Wi-Fi light stays amber all the time when its supposed to be white . In the booklet that came with it , it says if the Wi-Fi light does not light white press the Wi-Fi on/off button which I tried quite a few times but with no luck . When I try to connect I get Checking network requirements . It seems to connect because if I want to try it again I have to disconnect it first . I bought the item in Nov 2015 but just used the router that came with the provider . Thank you . Nettle .

Hello NavyLCDR , there is supposed to be a genie screen to log onto the modem / router and help you connect to the internet but I never noticed it , even though I tried to launch the web browser. Will I be able to log onto proxyservr.info if I set-up the Netgear Nighthawk Modem Router again .

I would press the reset button on the Netgear router with a paper clip or thumbtack:

You can return the router to its factory settings. Use the end of a paper clip or a similar object to press and hold the Reset button on the back of the router for at least seven seconds. The router resets, and returns to the factory configuration settings shown in the following table.

Make sure you have the cable between the router and the modem connected to the correct ports. I would also reset the internet modem, usually unplugging the power cable for a few seconds and then plugging it back in will work. Does your laptop have an Ethernet (wired) network connection? It's best to start with the laptop plugged into a lan port on the router with a cable. Then go to http://www.routerlogin.net/ on your browser and that should get you into the Netgear's setup genie.

I believe after the router is reset, it also creates a default WiFi signal as well that can be used for the initial setup if you can't connect to it with a cable.

Hello all , when I logon to windows 7 and type http://www.routerlogin.net I get the screen guide where I 'v tried lots of times to put the user name and password in that is on the router itself , but with no luck . i'v even tried my own user name on the guide also putting them in reverse order but still no good . On windows 10 I get a blue box with Microsoft edge on the top ,saying The server routerlogin.net is asking for user user name and password the server is Netgear D7000 .Your user name and password will be sent using basic authentication on a connection that isn't secure .
I also get 401 access denied
and 401 Unauthorized . The client has not sent the correct authentication .
But once again I tried both password and name in reverse and forward just to make sure I had the right name and password in the right box , I even tried my own user name . The Wi-Fi light is still amber , and I have not tried to re-set the router back to factory settings .

    Netgear routers admin pages
    192.168.1.1
    -- OR --
    192.168.0.1

Theses addresses also work on Netgear Routers
    http://www.routerlogin.net
    -- OR --
    http://www.routerlogin.com

    Username: admin
    Password: password

There also might be a sticker on the router with login info

First of all , I reset netgear with a halved cocktail stick . At first I didn't think it had worked the Wi-Fi light was still amber . But when I came downstairs all the lights were white . I put all the Pre-set wireless settings as they were on the router . Capitals for the Networks name ( SSID ) and small letters for the Network Key ( password ) . All I got was Applying Internet Connection Settings on windows 10 I tried loads of times , I then went too windows 7 . I got 2 long boxes with ISP User name , and Password underneath . I then got an error page ( that's what I think it was . ) It said BT Home your Gateway into BT . If you've reached this page its because of , and it loaded loads of reasons . So i'm back to PlusNet Hub One .I will probly have to get a BT engineer out if I want it setting up . So failed again ALL the lights were white though on the router if only I'd been smart enough to set it up .
