    media streaming not turning on

I am trying to include a Bravia TV in the list of devices with which I can share media from my Desktop computer.. When I click the "Turn On Media Streaming Button" on my Desktop computer nothing happens. I also have a Surface Pro3 and the button works normally on this and streaming to the TV is enabled from the Surface Pro. Sharing between the Desktop and the Surface Pro works normally in both directions. Any ideas for a solution?

    Hi there
What are you using to play content on the TV. Are you using a media server (e.g PLEX) or the native player in the smart TV.

If it's the native player in the Smart TV applications then the streaming option won't actually have any effect so long as the TV can SEE the media files.

Some smart TV's don't actually like Windows "Shares" although they can see the same files if it's on a Linux network !!.

A neat solution IMO is to use something like a CHROMECAST dongle for your remote TV, install PLEX on the computer and smart phone and then simply "Cast" the content to your TV using the mobile phone app.

VLC BTW can stream media to your TV too - a bit fiddly though to set it up. BTW the Chromecast dongle can also be connected to ETHERNET if you don't think your Wifi is fast enough for movie streaming. Either Google's own usb / Ethernet dongle or slightly cheaper get a generic usb/Ethernet dongle --remember though the USB-->Ethernet is a Female connector if using a generic one.

(The surface Pro is a brilliant device !!!! check though what applications the computer and surface pro are using to stream to the device -- you might have something on the surface pro which isn't on your other computer - for instance the surface pro , like smart phones is a DLNA enabled device and can share and transmit / receive screens -- not sure if your main computer can do that so you might need a media server to transmit to TV).

Good Afternoon Jimbo45 and thank you for your reply. Streaming from my Desktop previously worked with Windows 7 and when I upgraded to 10 it also continued to work until recently. I do not use a third party media streamer only that which is incorporated in W10 (presumably Media player). I am assuming that the failure of the button to respond is the result of some W10 update or just something in W10 that is no longer working and it is a solution to that that I am seeking. The TV does not see the Desktop server but as I mentioned previously it does see the Surface Pro 3 server. Incidentally it also sees my Surface Pro 2 Server (W8.1).
Thank you also for your suggestions regarding Chromecast etc. and I may look into that further. I also use VLC player and was not aware that it could function as a media streamer, however, my main interest is in streaming still images and not video.

You have provided some suggestion for which I am obliged.
    Thank you

    Hi there
    just another idea

W10 has a CAST TO option - can the CAST device see your TV.

This of course will only work from your computer TO the TV. To view the TV screen on another device - you are on your own on that one I'm afraid as that's not a function I've ever wanted.

Note also ensure no firewall is blocking your network or any AV software either.
