    Laptop Wifi Question (Sager NP9377)

I recently upgraded my internet speed with my ISP, but the tech guy said my wireless is not able to pick up 5G. Is there anything I can do? My laptop is a Sager NP9377 and it has Realtek rtl8723ae wireless lan 802.11n pci-e nic. Thoughts/help GREATLY appreciated

You should be able to easily replace the Wi-Fi card in your laptop with one that can handle the 5 GHz AC band. Just look up the specifications on the card that you have, I believe it's a PCI Express format but you need to verify that. Then you can just buy a new card of the same format and install it. It should be quite easy to do.

If I replace the Wifi card, are they mostly the same size? I mean, would it fit my Sager Np9377? Here is a link to the one I am looking at:

Amazon.com: Intel 3160.HMWG.R Dual Band Wireless AC + Bluetooth Mini PCIe card Supports 2.4 and 5.8Ghz B/G/N/AC Bands with Mounting Screws: Computers Accessories

    Thoughts/help GREATLY appreciated :)

Yes, all mini PCI cards have the same shape and pin configuration. I have to have a Sager that I have a AC 7260 Wi-Fi card in, also made by Intel.

The card supports 2.4 GHz and 5.8GHz. Is the 5.8 same as 5G?
Also once installed, how/where do I get the Drivers? I am using Windows 10 64-bit

Windows Update will automatically detect the hardware change and install the driver. Should be no need to check with mfr, most don't even post them any more.

Do I need to change any settings or anything to switch between 2.4 GHz and 5.8GHz networks?

After you install the new Wi-Fi card you can go into device manager and under the network communications section flecked the new Wi-Fi card. Under the advanced section you will see we can choose which band you want to have the priority when it selects the network.
