Windows 10 conntection problem - standard solutions don't work

    Hello everybody,

I am new to the forum and would like to use the collective expertise to solve the problem I have. I upgraded one of our older family computers from Windows 7 Home to Windows 10 in October. Evterything worked fine up to a few days before christmas, when the computer wouldn't connect to the net anymore. It is not a hardware problem, since the connection to the internet works fine with every other device in the household, an I tried a USB-network adapter.

Windows troubleshooting told me that my networkadapter didn't have an ip-configuration. I tried both wifi and lan, with the same result. Googling the problem, I spent about two days applying all the standard solutions:
    - using netshell: resetting winsock, and ipv4 and ipv6
    - unchecking ipv6 in the network adapter propterties
    - deleting winsock and winsock2 in the registry
    - switching off of firewall and antivirus scanner
    - etc....

The current situation: in the properties of my network adapter I manually configured the IP connection; IP address of the machine (192.168.178.222; which ist outside the range my router automatically distributes); IP address of the standard gateway (my router 192.168.178.1), DNS-Server (one of the German T-Online public DNS-Servers, and as an alternate my router). If I ping my router or the manually configured DNS-Server with it's IP address, I get a 100% return. Yet it is not possible to ping an internet address or use a browser. Windows troubleshooting tells me, that the DNS-Server is not working (something I already figured ), but the little triangle with the exclamation mark is gone.

Since there was an update on win 10 yesterday I am thinking about manually updating the machine, maybe that will solve the problem.

Is anybody out there with an idea on how to solve this problem? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

My responses might take some time since I won't be at my computer most of today.

I tried all the automatic settings already since I think they are basically safer. Since they all didn't work I resorted to the manual configuration and am now trying to figure out how to get my computer to resolve domain names into IP addresses.
