There is a wired hotspot? I think not!
Really. Never knew that, even though I know what the eMTA that Comcast and TWC are issuing, have a Public Hotspot that broadcasts as Xfinity/CableWiFI, besides their own personal locked down Hotspot.

There is no wired hotspot in the eMTA's. You have the 4 port switch, a Wireless Access Point for your own use, a Digital phone connection, and Comcast has the ability of enabling their own private for paying customers Public Hotspot that goes by "Xfinity/CableWifi".

As for the OP issue. No telling until they come back to answer, if they even decide to come back.

No, of course not. You keep saying the OP's problem is due to a hotspot, when he made it clear he is using a wired connection.

How in the world did you gather that from a one post poster, who has not responded, and you just pulled that out of the air.

That is not what the OP is talking about. You and everyone else needs to stop guessing and wait to see if the OP even comes back.
From OP's initial post: "it says identifying for a little while then says unidentified network no Internet".

    I
have read the initial post, no doubt, it says UNIDENTIFIED NETWORK, unless I'm blind. Now if you think that DHCP is not involved in this issue, no problem.... it could be as simple as a misconfigured DHCP setting on the edge router or DHCP disabled. Could be also a more complex issue, that's why I've suggested to update ethernet drivers to exclude this, if that's not the case. When I have set, my W7/W10 x64 Pro dual boot system, I've discovered, to my surprise, that I had connectivity on W 10 side but unidentified network on W 7 side. The solution was as simple, as updating Ethernet & Wireless s/w on W7, then immediately Internet connectivity was restored. My guess is that W 10, during dual booting setup, induced "something" on the system... Of course, this in unrelated to OP's issue because he has not a dual-boot config.

    @ Bro67,
Do not attempt to dictate your opinion, which is also questionnable, by the way, or say what others should say or not OK????
That said, I'm not here to argue, if you think you know things better, (lol), then, good luck with the rest of the troubleshooting.... I have much more important things to do.

I recently bought an Ethernet cord to enhance my gaming performance, but when I plug it in it says identifying for a little while then says unidentified network no Internet.is run from.
This is very often due to bad cabling/connection, but if it does work when only changing the computer of your friend, the cable is probably o.k..
Could there maybe be some physical damage to the lan connector in your laptop? (such as a bend pin)
Otherwise I would start with Vaio 7's suggestion. Remove the current network drivers, and install the most recent ones for your network card. W10 might have messed that up.

In my case, the issue I described with my dual-boot laptops, was present on both laptops, on the W 7 side, the laptop I used to connect with Ethernet cable needed a W7 newer ethernet driver, and the laptop I used with wireless connection, needed an Intel W 7 newer driver. When I booted to W 10 on both laptops, I had internet connectivity, thus my guess that W 10 dual-boot setup must have altered/overriden W7 hardware NIC's config. After that change, I have excellent internet connectivity with both OS's and never encountered any additional problems.

Yeah, whilst W10 is pretty good at auto-detecting and auto-installing such things, when it does it wrong, it has become in many cases more difficult diagnosing and fixing that.

You may need drivers for your ethernet card, I have no idea why the Wi-Fi is being discussed. What is the make and model of the laptop?

HP have not released drivers for the Pavilion DV6, so search for new drivers using Device Manager.

The next step is finding out the model of your network card.

If no joy, search for drivers using VID/PID string of port. If you don't know how to do this, see Device Manager - Finding Unknown Devices - Windows 7 Help Forums
