Network Protocols Missing

My comment re windows suggesting issues with the modem/router/cables etc is that I've had all these messages and, for me*, these are bogus in that I have other laptops that connect fine over wifi so I know the issue is with my win 10 laptop. * I accept this is for me and might not be the case for other people but I'm coming round to the opinion that this is fundamentally a win 10 issue. Many people are reporting the same hardware works OK with other OS - in my case wifi works with Linux and win7 on this laptop and home router. It is only when I install/use win10 do I have this wifi connection issue.

Search Google, not this forum, for "WiFi" doesn't have a valid IP configuration"

I have been fighting this problem for a few days now. I tried all the suggested repairs but nothing worked. When I reset winsock and winsock2, I need to add credentials so I got an idea. I added my tablet to as a user with a password to the desktop. I logged in using that user and password and it worked. I now have access to my Vista Desktop over wireless from my tablet.

Hope this helps others experiencing this issue.

1. Download the two attachments here, names Winsock.reg and Winsock2.reg.
2 Right-click START|RUN|type "regedit" and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock
3. Extract both Winsock and Winsock 2 folders (to a different folder than the one with the files downloaded here).
4. In the registry, delete those two folders.
5. Double-click and MERGE into the registry each of the two folders that were downloaded.
6. Reboot several times.
7. If Event Viewer displays an error "The device or resource (wpad) is not set up to accept connections on port "The World Wide Web service (HTTP)" right-click START|CONTROL PANEL|INTERNET OPTIONS|CONNECTIONS tab|LAN settings button and UNcheck "automatically detect settings."

If problems arise delete the two Winsock folders you added to the registry and merge the ones that you saved.

Hey everybody

After suffering the same issues and doing some research I have a very easy and robust solution which requires no downloads and no need to mess with registry keys. Just follow these steps:

1) Open command prompt as an administrator - Start, command prompt (admin),
2) You should see C:\windows\system32> then type sfc /scannow
3) You will see a message "Beginning system scan. This process will take some time. Beginning verification please of system scan.
4) Let the process run to 100% completion
5) If all goes well you will now see this message.....

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\logs\CBS\CBS.Log. For example c:\Windows\logs\CBS\CBS.Log. Note that logging is currently not supported in offline servicing scenarios.

After receiving this message all my issues were fixed and my internet came back online without having to reboot.

Same problem with two Dell D630 floptops ,"One or more protocols missing". After following these instructions and rebooting my router both connect wired or wireless.

DON'T BE PUT OFF BY THE LENGTH OF THIS POST IT'S REALLY EASY, JUST RATHER DETAILED
I had the same issue, tried a system Restore which worked (Yay!) for all of a few hours (Boo!)

I then tried a host of the suggestions offered here and elsewhere, none of which worked. Now I am a bit of an IT gimp, so if it is much more than operate the on - off biselector unit, I really have to think hard about what I am doing. However having taken away two wrong answers and done a 50/50, I decided to phone a friend. He kindly sent me the following (it seems quite a lengthy description, but honestly, it took me less than five minutes to do and - Hey Presto, it worked fine.)

Open Device Manager in Control Panel and scroll down to Network Adapters

(There may be more than one adapter if there is you need to find which one is the one that connects you to the internet. To do this open Network and Sharing on the left side of Network and Sharing you will find a change adapter settings function, click it. This opens your adapters and from within there you should be able to determine which adapter is your WIFI adapter.)

In Device Manager / Network Adapters right click on your adapter and click uninstall.

Once it’s uninstalled it should remove itself from the list, if it doesn't then delete it again.

Check the bottom right of your screen (systray and your WIFI icon should show it should show a white cross in a red background (no connection) or will look like a TV screen (no adapter).

The Device Manager may refresh itself and the adapter may re-load automatically and show in the Network Adapters section again of Device Manager. If it does then your WIFI Icon should show a small white cross (WIFI available but not connected)

If it doesn't then right click on the Network Adapter Heading Line in Device Manager and click "Scan for hardware changes" Device Manager should now refresh again and your Network adapter should reappear.

The icon in the systray should change to a a small white cross (WIFI available but not connected)

Once it’s back in the Network Adapter settings of Device Manager and in the systray (bottom right of screen) you should be able to reconnect WIFI by left clicking on the systray icon and then select your connection and connect, you will need to put your WIFI password in.
If that doesn't work try the process again but this time before refreshing the Network adapter do a reboot whilst its rebooting reboot your Router.

Now go back to Device Manger/Network Adapter and then right click on each of the Adapters/ Controllers and click update Driver Software.

Hum, after nearly 6 decades as either a technician or engineer I forgot the basic troubleshooting technique of swapping cables. After our Comcast phone and Internet went down and came back my Ethernet would not connect (little yellow warming). After doing all the usual stuff to reset the network, etc., I just thought the cable was bad and replaced it; but, connected the router end in the wrong output. The network started up and then I noticed the cable in the #3 output. I am getting old and not as fast as in the past, so I tried it in the #1 output and it would not work. Hum, that means!!!!!!!

Oh well, guess there is too much dust in that connector, so #3 will have to do. Old dog, old tricks.
