My issue is the complete opposite the OP's. Hoping someone can help me. All other devices in the house (iPad, phones, other laptops etc.) can connect to the wireless. However the desktop PC that is connected via Ethernet cannot get connected to the Internet (except via Wireless as it also has a built-in wireless router). I am getting the "one or more network protocols are missing on this computer" error as well. Please help!!
I have the same issue, however it did not get resolved. To be more precise : I can't get access to internet through ethernet, however I can using Wi-FI. Other desktop computers in the house have no issue.

I tried the things I have read here (rebooting computer, rebooting rooter, disabling/enabling ethernet controllers..).
When I took a look at my update history, I noticed an update "1511" had been installed recently (2 days ago, but I rebooted several times since). I unstalled it but it did not resolve anything.

Well. I don't understand anything. The issue just "got solved" (without me doing anything special, not even rebooting).

Probably some recent Windows Update fixed things for you :)

I posted this another thread but I started out following this one so thought it may be useful here too...

Got the same problem on a brand new Lenovo after 1511 update was installed on March 3.

I rolled back the install to check the problem went away (it did and I could instantly get on line again). I then switched to scheduled updates and downloaded 1511 again, once downloaded I disconnected my wifi and then disabled my AVG firewall and then selected install updates and shut down so that 1511 was installed again.

Once back up, all was good and I could connect to the internet again and so I've re-enabled my AVG firewall. So far so good.

The AVG might be a red herring and simply rolling back 1511 and then re-installing it may also do the trick.

Certainly no need to disable TCP/IP v6, or re-install it. Also no need to run any winsocks commands etc. Obviously every case is the different as can be seen by the many different solutions but this worked well for me, was easy and hopefully will help someone else

That's why I would disable my Antivirus before any major update, just to be on the safe side. That is the Antivirus won't try to interfere and screw the update process.

Not practical though that. Microsoft's default settings and their recommendation is that you install updates automatically which means you get no warning most of the time and so no opportunity to disable your firewall. Even if you schedule the update, you only get to delay them by a week. Again, not practical for most people.

There are also major security implications for the time the firewall is off, particularly if someone forgets to disconnect or forgets to switch it back on immediately.

I've never had to switch off my firewall for any Windows 7 update. And you shouldn't have to for any Windows 10 updates. They've really dropped the ball here in my opinion. A brand new Lenovo laptop pre-installed with Windows 10 and the first major update breaks everything - nothing custom installed over than Office365. How people that aren't great technically will manage is the major problem. People will vote with their feet.

You can set to be prompted when new updates are available instead of them being installed automatically. When prompted, you can disable the antivirus (only for an hour or until next restart), begin the installation and avoid any issues. After the hour has expired or you restart your computer the antivirus should load automatically and be protected again. The risk is not too high as you will disable protection only for little time. I agree this should be fully automatic but the world is not perfect.

You can and I agree that the risk is small but it's still a risk - advice is to switch off internet access before disabling a firewall for any length of time.

Also the schedule and prompt mechanism only allows you delay the update by up to one week. What happens if you haven't been online for more than a week or you miss the warning telling you of an imminent update? Before you know it, it's helpfully installing updates for you before you've had chance to disable the firewall and then you're in this mess again.

Then don't postpone it for too long. Do it as soon as you can to make sure you can control it and never done automatically when away. And you should always be online and disconnect internet only for certain tasks (I take your word that this doesn't include installing pirated stuff )
