Thnx jeffery....that's a handy dandy. Don't use it all that much but do have several utilities (apps?) that require a network to update themselves while in that mode. My earlier issue was my user profile became corrupted (wouldn't connect no matter what) created another user and bingo back in business. Thnx again for that tip.

Your welcome, I came across your original post when searching for a fix to my own issue. When I found a solution elsewhere I decided to pass it along in case others might find it useful. Glad to see you already resolved your own issue earlier!

P.S.: I like your profile pic. with the ape and dog.

thnx Jeffrey ur solution worked for me "Click the Network icon prior to logging in as a user, you will be able to connect to a network" i.e. when my pc was using wifi to connect to modem. I found I had no problem with SMwN when pc connected to modem using Ethernet cable

I found a fix that for me at least didn't entail creating another user profile. The link shown below covers every way to go about it an luckily Step 1. [re-setting the registry files] did it in my case. After applying the fix sure enough went to Safe Mode with Networking and it instantly put me on-line. It really was painless. I've tried the creating another user profile an for me it created more problems than it solved. Here's the link:
