    Verizon FiOS Modem/Router Recommendations

I'm in the market for a Verizon FiOS modem/router. Verizon discontinued copper DSL in my area.

Is it possible to get just the modem? I understand that the router's WiFi can be disabled, but I'd like to get a modem/router without WiFi capability. I suspect that's not possible for a Verizon-certified gateway.

What's the best model? Are there models to avoid?

I was looking at the FiOS plans, and it appears that it may be difficult to avoid the hardware rental fee. It used to be optional, but I don't see that now. So, you pay the price for rental whether you use Verizon-supplied hardware or not.

    Hi. That's the thing...

Verizon provisions and pushes their own equipment.
However, you should easily be able to use your choice of router in Bridge Mode.

Check with them about that and ask to not charge you for their equipment.

VZ installs a ONT which allows you to use your own router or just lease one from them.
