Recommendation for WiFi usb / card

Hi, I am running windows 10 and have a Linksys mesh system with Linksys Atlas Pro 6 - AX5400 | Dual-Band

The nodes more of less are set up well but to maximise on the fact I have a gigabit speed IPS up and down what sort of WiFi usb do I need to consider?

Also usb out the front of the ASU’s tower or a card out the back?

What I try to do is assure the 802.11_ Wireless/Wi-FI is n or ac or ax adapter in a computer is the same as the Wireless Router. None of the computer setups I've had to work with had Wireless/Wi-Fi outside of their building. It was the Broadband cable or phone line DSL into the building connecting to the Modem or combination Modem/Router via Ethernet cable. The Router usually is also capable of Wireless/Wi-Fi connection of that Network and computers with the wireless adapter connect to the Router which gets its Internet feed or WWW from the service providing it. Personally my setup is a dish/antenna on the end of the house, Ethernet cable into the house to a PoE Modem then to the 4-port Wireless Router with an added 8-port Switch. I have both wired and wireless computers connecting THROUGH the Router to the Modem to the Internet. More basically the only wireless part of the system is in the house. Probably the only wireless direct connect to the Internet is with Satellite systems.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

I have checked and these Linksys Atlas nodes can cover up to Wifi6? So what I am wondering is it just as good to stick a usb antenna as j have at the moment in the front USB or a WiFi card in the back into the board and either way, is it best to get a WiFi 6 usb etc?

If you have a desktop computer I would STRONGLY suggest a PCIe adapter rather than a USB adapter if you go with WiFi 6. The only USB WiFi adapters that I have seen thus far use a Realtek chipset which is reported to have some serious flaws. In my own personal experience, I have tried 2 of these and returned both, getting performance worse than other WiFi 5 adapters and constant disconnects even 10 feet from my WiFi router.

If you go with a USB adapter, I would suggest a quality WiFi 5 adapter.

One more note: Should you decide to go with a WiFi 6 PCIe adapter, I would suggest a WiFi 6e model. They actually cost no more, and they are one step up just in case you ever go to a WiFi 6e router.

I agree with a PCIe card over USB. Also get one with remote antennae. You don't say what your budget is but Asus PCIe network adapters are known to be one of the best brands available:

Many of the adapters are all basically the same thing, based around the same chipsets. My personal preferences are for cards that use the Intel AX200 for WiFi 6 and the Intel AX210 for a WiFi 6e adapter. Many companies will tell you what chip they are using.

Coincidentally, I just finished a few minutes ago testing and swapping WiFi adapters in two completely different laptop models. I was testing using a Wifi 6 router (not 6e) but ironically, in both laptops I got better performance with the AX210 adapter vs the AX200 adapter. I guess that even at WiFi 6 this may be a little better adapter.

As indicated above in post #5, WiFi 6E, tri-band, 802.11ax, is the latest standard. WiFi 6 802.11ax is dual-band. WiFi 6E is backward compatible, but not the other way around. WiFi 6E adds a 6 GHz band in addition to the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. It's something to consider.

It looks like WiFi 7 is coming.
