How do I solve Wi-Fi issue when HP laptop keeps disconnecting randomly

I recently upgraded to Windows 10 and was happy with the new OS but lately I have been having issues with the Wi-Fi since it disconnects randomly several times during the day. It seems to "turn off" on its own and comes back up after a while. It's annoying and I didn't have this issue with OS 8.1. If possible, I'd like to solve the problem. I've thought about reverting back to 8.1 but I've misplaced the key and it's not in a sticker underneath either so I can't really do that now. The option that most people show by going to 'Recovery' doesn't work because it says the 'necessary files have been deleted' so I can't proceed that route anymore. Please help!!

Often with an upgrade, the OS will use a generic driver for the network card instead of a more suitable specific driver.
Please list the make/model of your laptop.
    Also open Device Manager ...

    Windows key + r
    devmgmt.msc

Expand the node Network Adapters and double-click the entry for your WiFi adapter <- should open a Properties box
On the Details tab, take a note of the 'Device Description' and the 'Hardware IDs'.

If you post that info, I'll help you try to find the best driver but the 1st place to check would probably be your PC vendor's website & forums. Its likely that someone has encountered a similar issue.

Try downloading the driver from intel.com and install. See if that helps.

Hi. I've just had a look at the HP support website and they do have network drivers for Windows 10.
If you find your exact laptop model on this page, follow directions ...

    http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Nav?h...&lang=en&cc=us

You can download a driver package for the 3160 from this Intel page ...

    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/dow...for-Windows-10

but the Intel page does recommend the laptop vendor's own driver package in the first instance.

"Intel recommends that you obtain and use the software provided via your laptop manufacturer."

I had this issue with my HP Envy too, I simply made a connection to the router using the 5.ghz band and all network issues went away. I happened to have a dual band router and that is what worked for me. IT is the only wireless device I have using the 5.ghz band of the router...all others use the default band. Something to think about...

I appreciate all the help but the drivers didn't solve the problem (even though I downloaded them from the site provided) so I reverted back to Windows 8.1 Problem solved. Thank you!
