@Try3 Thanks for the detailed reply. My laptop's adapter is the Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX201 160 MHz. There is also a Realtek USB-to-Ethernet adapter - the laptop does not have an Ethernet port, so if I want to use the wired connection I have to use the USB-to-Ethernet dongle and the Realtek adapter appears in the settings (including the device manager) only when the dongle is connected. That connection is flaky at most, but that's a topic for a separate discussion.
LG does not provide any reasonable service, the only drivers they seem to update are the network drivers, both Wi-Fi and Ethernet. For the Wi-Fi, the LG site features the driver version 21.120.2.1 dated Jan. 6, 2022. The Intel site offers the driver version
22.110.2.1 dated Dec. 29, 2021. Now, the laptop itself reports driver 22.80.1.1 with the "driver date Sep. 12, 2021. This must have come from Windows update, although the entries in the update log simply state Intel - SoftwareComponent or Intel - System, so it's hard to say which on is which. I'm not sure there are any useful Intel forums, given the broad spectrum of products, lots of them "internal" and obscure.
I'm going to try your suggestion of turning the adapter on and off when the problem occurs and report back in a few days.
