Homegroup created by a computer no longer on the network

I realize there are other threads on the topic of Homegroups but I did not want to hijack any. I upgraded two desktops (from win 7 and win 8.1) to Win 10. While I love it, I must say it did not go as smoothly as I anticipated (and I consider myself reasonably computer savvy).

Right now I am trying to solve an issue with a HomeGroup. It is in a state of flux, and I tried everything I could think of. The main problem is be that one (or sometimes both) desktops see a HomeGroup that was created long time ago by a computer I no longer had. Naturally, I don't have the password to it. When I turn one computer off, the other one seems to be OK to create a new HomeGroup, but once I turn on the first computer, all goes awry again.

Is there any way to reset it to original state? Thanks.

I'm no expert but I had a similar situation. I replaced my old (Win 7 32 bit) PC with a new one, running Win 10. But I forgot that the homegroup had been created by the Win7 PC and the other PCs were still connecting to that homegroup.

The solution was to turn on all PCs in the group, and then select Leave homegroup on all of them. Once a homegroup has no members it disappears. After that you create a new homegroup on whichever PC you want.

For the password, there should be an option somewhere on the homegroup screen, on a PC that is still joined to it, to "Show or print homegroup password".

Thanks for the answer. Unfortunately, that does not work for me. As of right now, both computers claim that the old computer - that I no longer have - has created a homework on the network.
