Yeah UKMedia I have verified that setting is off among many other things. I thought I had it fixed as my shared folder list kept coming up but as soon as I tried to open one of them, the issue popped up again saying it couldn't connect to the network resource. A refresh or 2 and then I could access the shares.
What other machines are you trying to connect to - are they all Win 10 or a mix?

I'm trying to connect to a Windows 7 Pro machine. When I ran Win 7 Pro on my now Win 10 machine, I never had the issue.

I'm about to do a clean install of Windows 10 and basically start over as I've been putting it off and now is as good of a time as any. I thought about trying the repair option but I have alot of old stuff that I don't need so I'm just going to start from a clean state and install the things I need.

I had problems with this and changed some of the security settings on both the Win7 and Win10 machines but mine was no access rather than intermittent.

    My All Networks Settings are:

    - Turn off public sharing
    - Use 128-bit
    - Turn off password protected sharing

I'm logging in on my Win10 pc with a Microsoft account and a local account on my Win7 PC. I therefore needed to store the login details of each PC on the other PC - prompted to enter when trying to access. I also created my Workgroup as a Work type and not home.

    Is this your setup?

Since I'm still backing things up I can check before I format. These are set on both the Windows 10 machine and the Windows 7 machine. My network is setup as a private network.

    • I have Network Discovery turned On
    • Turn on automatic setup of network connected devices. (I've tried with this turned off as well)
    • File and Printer sharing is turned On
    • Use user accounts and passwords to connect to other computers is set
    • User 128 bit is enabled
    • I have Turn on password protected sharing as all my accounts on both machines are local
    • I have mine setup as a private network.

I still think this must be a setting and so re-installing Win10 won't fix. Before you reinstall, I suggest that you create a new Workgroup and see if that works. (Choose Work in the Wizard, not home)

    Good luck... :)
