the network card is recognized but won't connect to internet. I am wondering if the Logitech keyboard and mouse I have anything to do with it....I doubt it, but you never know.

go back to 8.1 internet works fine.
Just checking:
You downloaded the right driver architecture yeah? (X86 or AMD64)
If it's the right architecture then maybe head over to the Microsoft Update Catalog and rolling back to an earlier driver. Occasionally the latest doesn't work properly. They currently have 4 different versions available for the AR8161 (including the latest)
Personally I would just pull the mini-card and replace with the Intel 7260. It will give you Wireless-n at 300 mb/s. You may not get the 5ghz band, without replacing the two antennas. This shows you how to pull the back off. OPEN ME UP! Dell XPS 27, 2710, 2720 Disassembly - YouTube
The Intel card runs around $30. The older Dell card runs around $5 these days.
Can your Acer laptop see your Dell 2710? Checking to see if your internal network is OK...
My 2.1.0.16 is dated 4/1/13
If you are connected to the network, try Farbar's MiniToolbox from here. MiniToolBox Download As for the 7260 mini card, you can get it through Amazon or CDW.
it almost sounds like it thinks there is a proxy server running.
I assume that you have double checked your IP settings etc...
