Why the specified network password is not correct?

Why the specified network password is not correct? My password is CORRECT!! It's a good password and the only password used on these computers. When I try to network from my win 10 laptop to win 10 desktop I get this error message? I went to Control Panel Networking and troubleshooted and it said I didn't have permission to network. Yet I had no trouble when I was working the same computers in win 8.1 and win 7. There has been no change in networking procedure in win 10 which worked well in win 7 and 8.1.:)

Are you sure it didn't say username OR password?

The username is computername\username. If you are not entering it like this, try this way.

    Edit:- fixed error in username.

    NOT solved

I have a home server that I use to store media, files etc on. I shared a folder called Movies and gave the Everyone group Full Access. I created a Standard User account called StanUser. I was able to access the share from my laptop, my PC and my iPad (through FileExplorer) using the HomeServer\StanUser method, providing the password when requested.

Then, for some unknown reason I started getting the error "The specified password is not correct". Rubbish!

I tried using the Administrator account for the server to connect but got the same message (in fact I think it said "the username or password is incorrect")

Seeing as nothing had changed from one day to the next there was no reason this should have been happening.

Going in to File Explorer -> Network and trying to access it via that didn't work. In the Run command using \\HomeServer\Movies didn't work. Same error.

Eventually I rebooted the server and hey presto I was able to connect to the share. My only thought was that maybe there were other users connected to the share using that username however in Computer Management on the server it did not show any connected sessions.

Jim77 - Not sure what you mean by create a local drive and password unless you mean a local ACCOUNT and password. Already did that. Unless you're part of a domain you will always need to do this.

There is one way around this problem if you want to allow everyone access to a share without the need for a password:

Go to Network and Sharing Centre -> Advanced Sharing Settings. Expand All Networks and at the very bottom select Turn Off Password Protected Sharing. This will mean that any share that is shared using the Everyone group will not require a password. Any other shares that are only shared with specific people only will still require a password.
