No Internet, secured
Hello,
Recently I have moved into a house and I live with a few other roommates. We all share an Internet connection, using Wi-Fi. On my floor, in the house, there is a repeater and I used to connect from it.
One of my roommates has set the connection manually on my laptop from the very beginning. I have no idea why she did that and not just leave it to automatic (DHCP).
These are the current, manual, Settings I see there:
IPV4: On (IPv6: Off)
IP Address: 192.168.1.25
Subnet Prefix Length: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.1
Preferred DNS: 1.1.1.1
Alternate DNS: 1.0.0.1
Until last Friday my connection was working.
All of a sudden, the connection was cut. On my Taskbar the Wi-Fi icon now has a yellow rectangle and the connection says “No Internet, Secured”. I believe I am connected to the router (or the repeater) but there’s no Internet connection.
I asked the… Guru who manually set up the Internet and she said that my laptop is faulty! She told me to change the last two digits of the IP Address, so number 25 above, until I will get connected. I entered various values there but nothing is working! I have also completely uninstalled my Wi-Fi Adapter, from the Device Manager, and rebooted. Again, various values for those last two digits of the IP Address, nothing works. I have also tried two commands, CMD (Admin):
- ipconfig /flushdns
- netsh winsock reset
Reboot.
Nothing works. No Internet connection,
I am a complete and total newbie when it comes to Networks. And I hate myself about it.
So, I would like to ask you:
1) Why does a person set the Wi-Fi manually and does not leave it on Automatic (DHCP)
2) How can I make my Wi-Fi work again?
Please, help me because I am desperate. To post this message I turned my mobile phone into a Hotspot and I am now charged, because I use Mobile Data. This is the only way to connect to the Internet. And of course, there is no socket (plug) in my room to connect my laptop with a cable.
I am not sure if my laptop’s specs are required, if so just ask me and I will put them
I am on Windows 10 Pro, 64-bit, version 1803 build 17134.228
Grateful to whoever will help me!
