Unable to open office 2007 files in office 365

Had Office 2007 which I have now uninstalled and installed Microsoft 365.

I now am unable to open Word and Excel files created with Office 2007 in Microsoft 365.
I have saved the files again to .docx and .xlsx but still will not open in 365.

    See if this helps:

Regardless of what version of Microsoft Office you are receiving this error message with or the version of Windows you are getting it on, the underlying cause behind this problem is the same in almost all instances – a trial version of Microsoft Office being installed on the affected computer alongside the standard, retail copy of Microsoft Office that was later installed on it.

    Hello @scopio,

Have a look at this > Transfer files from MS Office 2007 to MS Office 365

    I hope this helps.

To test whether Office files have gotten corrupted I will also use the free LibreOffice to try opening, it can handle a number of formats.

When I looked at Windows settings default applications by file type there were no Word or Excel to choose from, so I realised that Microsoft 365 needed to be repaired.
I did a Microsoft 365 Repair, and all is well now!
