Home and Student has only Word, Excel, and I think Powerpoint.
Pro includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher and Access.
Additionally, you have to decide if you want to pay once and be done with it or pay monthly on a subscription basis like a utility bill.
Pro is around $440 direct from Microsoft. Home and Student is $150---for the most recent version--Office 2019. You can also find Office 2016. I'm not sure how 2019 differs from 2016. Beware of prices that are significantly less--you would be taking a chance on authenticity.

I use Home and Student also and have not been a student in this century. It doesn't ask for your status.
Maybe Cerebrus is referring to the special pricing sometimes offered by colleges for students who have an ".edu" email?
Hi there
@Frank1
Don't forget the various FREE Office clones out there -- my favourite is WPS (fomerly Kingsoft) Office which is about as close to Ms office as you can get and its FREE. It doesn't though have email client but you can also use Thunderbird on Windows if you need some sort of decent email program.

Save your money unless you can get Ms Office (any legit version) at a decent price. Home and Student can be bought easily enough online -- you don't need to show a student card unless you get one of those student discounts.
I'm not in favour of subscription stuff like office/365 but that's for another discussion completely.
Cheers

I agreed with Jimbo45. If your pc just a home use pc, not worth it to buy the Microsoft Office. WPS office is highly compatible with microsoft office file format, whether docx or xlsx.
