    Cant't Delete/Remove/Merge old Recovery Partition

    hi all

ok more a curiosity, when i installed a new Windows 10 system, not a reset or restore, i still have a recovery partition that is empty. i cant delete or merge this partiton for some reason and when i try with right click on said partiton all i get is help in context menu, no option to delete or merge.

i dont need this partition anymore and would like to merge it with the main "c" partiton.

Best done with a 3rd party option - AOMEI Partition Wizard or MiniTool Partition Magic (both freeware).

If you're into clean installs and/or regular imaging, that Recovery partition is a waste of space and can be done away with.

The Windows Recovery partition is a system partition, that is why Disk Management didn't allow you to delete.
And it wasn't empty. Disk Management does show as 100% Free but it isn't. As EFI also does show as 100% Free but it isn't.

You deleted a partition that you shouldn't. Now you don't have the WinRE tools.
What you should have done was to move the WinRE to the windows partition and then deleted the partition.
    Reagenc /disable

Everything that was available with the WinRE tools is also available by booting from a Windows 10/11 installation USB flash drive, as a backup. But, yes, I always run reagentc /disable before deleting or moving the recovery partition.

yeah i went through command prompt and worked out well, got a bit confused when i had to choose partition - disk # but kept on keeping on and succeeded triumphantly.

personal choice, with the original recovery partition it did have 166mb of data but after clean install it came back empty, no OEM crap in with it and i do know the EFI partition is necessary for system so definitely hands off. i dont bother with repair i just clean install.

i shouldnt have been so lazy to start and searched but not to worry it all worked out.

thanks everyone for your feedback, much appreciated.

i like a nice tidy system
