NavyLCDR The link you posted above takes me to a general Windows 10 upgrade. I currently have Pro installed. There is a feature I will be using once I've done the boot drive upgrade that requires using storages spaces for multiple drives. How can I make sure I get the pro version? (I'm kicking myself for not doing a restore disc when I first got this system! UGH!!!)

The link to the Microsoft website will create a USB flash drive that contains Pro (and about 8 other editions of Windows 10 too).

    Consider performing a custom install.

A custom install as compared to a clean install backs up files to windows.old.

A fresh version of Windows is installed.

Drivers and applications need to be reinstalled.

Important files are then restored from Windows.old

If you want to modify the BIOS that can also be performed.
For example: BIOS Legacy / Drive MBR > BIOS UEFI / Drive GPT

All you need is to let MCT create your boot able USB drive (8G min).

Windows can be installed in two ways: Legacy-MBR or UEFI-GPT
To install as Legacy-MBR you must boot the installation drive as Legacy
To install as UEFI-GPT you must boot the installation drive as UEFI.

If your computer has UEFI BIOS, you should install as UEFI-GPT but as you said it came with Win 7 it probably has only a Legacy BIOS so you should install as Legacy-MBR.
Detach any other drives from the computer.

During POST, press F12(?) to launch the boot menu. You will see two options for the USB drive. USB UEFI (Name) and USB (Name). Select USB UEFI (Name) to install as UEFI-GPT or USB (Name) to install as Legacy-MBR.
Go to install and delete ALL partitions on the SSD till you have one and only one unallocated space and then proceed.
If you don't want to use MS account, don't enable updates or connect to the internet during installation.
    Thank you

NavyLCDR I know this threads been going for months now, but I work a lot! I did get a usb stick created by the site you gave a link to. I still don't see where it will give me the option to select Pro. Will that happen during the actual installation? Will I be required to give a licensing number? I've gone through all the documentation that came with my system and cannot find that. I've sent a message to the reseller to see if they can assist, but they're under obligation to help, as I purchased it 2 years ago.

As already mentioned, the Win 10 installation drive has Win 10 Home and pro and about 8 other editions of Windows 10 too.

Normally you will only get two options to choose during installation: Home or Pro.
This is the normal installation on a custom build computer.
If your computer is a OEM (HP, Dell, Lenovo....) and it came with Windows 10 or 11 installed it has the default windows (home or pro) saved on BIOS.
In this case (a OEM computer) it won't ask what version you want to install. It will install the version (home or pro) that is saved on BIOS.

Post drive swap update. Sorry to be a pest to you guys, I understand now where you selected the version of Windows you're installing. I am however experiencing one or two post swap errors. Swapping out a SSD drive for a SATA drive I expected some performance differences, but this has made my system down right sluggish! Since I also use the system as a Plex server I leave it on all the time, just shutting the monitor off at night. When I use it next, programs are unresponsive. Even task manager became unresponsive as well. I don't expect the speed of a SSD drive, but should be something I can do to make things a bit quicker and more stable?

Since re-installing Win 10 Pro, OneDrive is taking everything over. I don't need, want or even like OneDrive. Rather build my own cloud using a NAS. I've uninstalled it, un-synced it, yet when I try to do ANYTHING it goes straight to OneDrive. Even as I download programs (legally), instead of going to the download folder, it's going to OneDrive. Photo's of stuff I'm selling, I even tried changing the "save to" directory when I download them from my phone. Set it to F:\, instead windows again sent it to OneDrive.

How much memory does your server has ?

I would suggest to use local accounts and uninstall OneDrive completely.

And also probably decrapify Windows completely.

System currently has 8Gb (2Gb x 4) of DDR3. I was thinking of upgrading to 16Gb (8gb x 2), with the option of adding another 16Gb later if I wanted to. It's an older system, wouldn't get a good ROI with expensive upgrades.

Oh, I love decrapifying windows any day. I've spent the last 30 years constantly decrapifying it!!!! I know magazines, websites and so on all use various bench mark programs to analyze systems. But those seem more geared towards gaming. I'm using this as a Plex Media server. I've been working on this for years, so my files are anything from older avi files to the latest version of Mkv. Right now I'm still adding more content from my extensive dvd and vhs collection. (Ex video store manager!)

Eventually when once I have the bulk of my collection copied onto hard drive (legally) I'll go back and start looking to re-rip and standardize my entire collection. One upgrade I do know is necessary, is upgrading my DVD burner to a Blue-Ray burner. What can I do to speed this process up? I've created a pair of monsters here. My wife and son were skeptical at first when I started working on Plex last fall, but now they see I've been adding our collection, they're going nuts now when they go shopping with even more movies!!! Suggestions?
