All we know so far is Acer Nitro, but there appears to be several of those.

This one has a Toshiba 1 gb HDD and a Kingston gb 120 SSD.
    It's this one: ACER NITRO 5 AN517.

I think that Macrium Knowledge Base explains the problem but I would need help to proceed.

BTW, I'm wonder why Macrium sees 4 partitions but Comp Mgmnt only 3?

Do I need all the partitions on the HDD/C-drive? AddRAM already said the Recovery isn't needed... But how do I know what's on which partition?

Heart is in boots at the moment.

check if your running os has optane drivers installed. Maybe the boot media doesn't

Acer has been known to have certain "Acer-only rather than industry-standard" nuances that may be problematic---as regards partitioning, BIOS, switches, where they put certain files at the factory and who knows what else.

And their customer service/support is mediocre on a good day.

    Their web site is hopeless.

I'd be interested to know if that "128 GB" SSD will in fact hold say 100 GB of pictures of your cat.

I don't think the problem is anything to do with Acer - the laptop has been "modified" (to put it kindly) by some jerk and sold on as if it were the original product.

I've looked up "optane" and it's something to do with Intel, I'm lost re that.

Anyway, it seems that I've exhausted TenForums, thanks so much for trying :)

Looking it up is no use. Are the drivers installed in your running os? Yes or no.

Did you ever delete the D partition from the SSD?

I didn't even know that an operating system had drivers, so I'm completely lost.

    No.

What I'm wondering now is whether I could shrink the OS partition and image that and whatever other essential is on the HDD. AddRAM said the Recovery is not essential, for instance.

But I've got to keep trying with F2, it's not much point doing anything if I can't boot from the emergency stick.

I have to be away again for a while.

One way to find out is with dism++
    Dism++10.1.1000.100.zipDism++10.1.1000.100.zip
click drivers in the left pane and they will be displayed on the right.

You can certainly restore ONLY SOME of the partitions on the hard drive that are in the image file.....however few would allow Windows to run on the SSD.

In Windows, Disk Management does not show the hidden partition that W10 makes when you install using UEFI on a GPT initialized Hard Drive or SSD. A program like Partition Wizard or Macrium Reflect shows them all (but don`t quote me on that). You can see pictures of a Legacy install and a UEFI install in my album on my profile page. You will see the difference that Windows Disk Management shows vs what Partition Wizard shows.

And if that Device Manager shot is from your laptop, the numbers 256 and the letter G after those numbers jump right out at me. Very odd indeed if that is your SSD. If the picture was pulled from the internet, then we will just ignore it.

May I ask, where are you storing the Macrium Reflect image ?
