Windows 10 install says not enough space to upgrade or system restore

    Thanks Guys.

    I have read alot of what you all have said so far, I will have to come back later today to re-read it. I have someone coming over today and have alot to do.

    But it says on my Laptop computer that there is 703 MB free of 28,0 GB on my C Drive

    Thanks for that. Definitely not enough space- think that Windows.old is created as roughly a copy of existing Windows.

    Were you to attempt the upgrade via Windows Update, there would be roughly a 4.6Gb download, and then you'd need working space. Say 20Gb free needed normally.

    Your only option here would be to burn the ISO to a USB or DVD and perform a fresh install. Backuping any files you want to retain onto a USB or external HDD

    No, that's not @ClaudiaThompson's only option.

    It is possible to use external storage as a temporary workspace to enable an upgrade to take place. If intending to use a usb, it may be a good idea to format it as ntfs to avoid Fat32's 4GB maximum file size limit, that would also mean you could put the ISO on the usb too. Probably need at least a 32GB usb.
