Upgrade to 10 from 8.1 Pro *refuses*

    Hey.

So, I've been trying all day to get a PC to upgrade to Win10 from Win8.1 Pro. Windows Update has failed multiple times with the automatic update, and I've created a USB installer from the downloader thing, which fails as well. It seems to actually try to do something, so we'll talk about that route.

The error I'm getting is the following:

    0xC1900101 - 0x20017
The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during BOOT operation

This is an incredibly vague error, and not useful in any way. Anyone know of a log file or something that might actually describe what's going on, rather than "oops! bad things!"

    Thanks.

Update: was able to do a clean install on a second SSD. >90% of hardware devices don't have drivers, but it *will* install clean. I'd much rather upgrade though...

This error is sometimes caused by an encyption program.
If your using one you'll have to unencrypt the drive.

Yeah, that's what's weird - the disk is not encrypted.

My best guess is that Windows 10 doesn't have very good X99 chipset support in the RTM image, and is dying when trying to access the M.2 SSD...
