I don't recall being given a choice: only two links were available 32 or 64 bit.
Are out going to the windows media creation page? If you do you are given the option to download the 32 or 64 bit tool. Once you download the tool and oh select for this PC or other PC and USB or ISO you have 3 options. You have the language, home or Pro (also the euro/North Korean and some other stripped version) and then the 32 or 64 or both.

This is where I've seen the mistake made.

By jove I think you've got something there. I just did it again and I'm pretty sure I accepted the default "Home" version; downloading Pro as we speak; thanks.
Edit: oh yeah boot to it or run setup from within Windows?
Edit# 2: Well you were right; that was it; haste makes waste. I just clicked over the download selections and downloaded Home version instead of Pro. Thanks again.
Now if I could just get my aging laptop to accept the upgrade.

For a clean install, it's better to boot from it. :)

Well depending on what you want to do. If you are doing a clean install "after" you have successfully done an upgraded install and verified that your windows 10 has been activated you will then want to do a clean install by booting to the image whether it be a USB or DVD and installing to a clean partition.

I usually wipe the hard drive after I have verified the upgrade using Gparted and setup my partitions that way. I then boot to my windows10 install media and install. I skip the part asking for the install key as it will validate when it connects to the Internet.

    Hope this helps

Never saw your post before installing. I would have wiped it also except I had a Linux partition and a backup partion. W10 seemed to do a good job of selecting the right partition and doing a 500Mb system partition so I let it go for it.
