This is no longer needed since version 10586 came out.

Simply clean install windows 10 and activate using old lkey.

He stated he used the ticket to active. Windows 10 would not run as a clean install on that machine.

Right. It wasn't possible to do a clean install. Only an Image restore from a different system did the trick. And then I needed to activate with the Ticket

Actually the issue was the incompatibility of the HD4000 graphics in the laptop. ATI considers this product legacy and not compatible with Windows 10. Windows 10 does have a driver that works, but it apparently does not load during the upgrade process. Uninstalling the driver before the upgrade does not help either since during the upgrade the wrong driver is reinstalled. kind of a catch 22. That is why imaging the laptop from another laptop works and then Windows 10 updates the correct driver. I suppose if I extracted the good driver from Win10, maybe it would work. By the way this issue was introduced with Threshold, the latest Win10 rollup.
