Windows 10 install stuck at black screen without cursor or anything

What I get now is: I installed Windows 10, but I didn't finnish the whole installation, because I can't login for the last personal settings. The startup is going well, it take some time before I see the login screen, and after I login I get a black screen and a few moments later my laptop is rebooting.

And the proces is starting again. Yesterday I had the same, I went back to Windows 7, today I tried again, and exactly the same problem.

I got windows 10 yesterday and I think I know how to fix anyone's problem. first if you see a black screen then you are at the login screen. You will need at least 2 monitors. You need to click enter. If you have a password then put it in and then click enter. and if you don't have a password then just wait a few minutes. so just wait a few mins so your pc or laptop can start up things. next click the windows button and p at the same time. now you want to use the up and down keys which can be found on your keyboard under the del button. you will need to click the up button 2 or 3 times. Then you will be able to see your screen i believe also if that doesn't work then turn off your pc or laptop and try it again.

Read back a few posts, this has already been posted and put in the pile with the rest of the temporary fixes but there are far easier ways. A simple click of the power button to put your pc in sleep mode works just as well. Try disabling the lock screen and more then likely your black screen will return.

Please try my solution from Page 15. I believe the problem lies on the CPU graphic card update. If you'd notice just after login in windows 10, in the device manager. Both CPU and GPU graphic display is named Windows media driver. I thought it was a problem, I downloaded Nvidia driver, failed to install because the driver is already installed. Opened Nvidia Geforce Experience, the Windows media driver switch to Nvidia.

Ok, I spent awhile reading this topic. I'll give you a breakdown of my issues and how I fixed them. This particular fix should be applicable to you if you have a graphics card (discreet) and onboard graphics.

I installed W10 and everything went well -- until the initial log in. All my files and information was there, but the resolution was god awful! I couldn't see a thing. I updated my drivers for my gfx card before I installed, so I figured I should be good to go. Well, I changed to 1080p and about 5 seconds later, my computer gave me the black screen of death. I restarted, got the Windows Icon and loading circle, then it went back to black screen. I tried restarting, no go. I tried using an HDMI cable plugged into my graphics, no go. I tried HDMI into my motherboard, no go. What I had to do was uncheck multi-monitor graphics in my BIOS. Access your BIOS by hitting the appropriate "F" key (mine was F2). To find my settings, I had to navigate to advanced settings and go under the "North Bridge" options on my motherboard. Like I said, my motherboard is a "gaming" motherboard, so yours probably won't be as involved.

After I did this, my issue was not fixed. After I changed the setting, saved my bios, and restarted, it only allowed Windows to boot into Recovery mode. At this point, I realized that it was definitely something messed up with my graphics. If you don't want to lose any data on your hard drive, you can roll back to a previous build. This "build" that it is referring to is actually your last version of Windows, so don't worry -- it'll work. I, though, did not want to go back to W7. In my case, I have my OS installed on an SSD with various smaller programs (it's only 110gb). I elected to choose the option "reset this PC." What this will do is install Windows 10 CLEAN (MEANING YOUR C:// DRIVE WILL BE WIPED!!!! but no other drives). Since all my data and games are on a different drive, I didn't care much.

After I installed W10, I reinstalled my programs/launchers (steam, battle net, origin, Spotify, chrome, etc) and everything is working swimmingly. I'm typing this on W10 as we speak. All my data and games are still installed, but my SSD was wiped. The launchers all point to my games still and it all works fine.

So, to recap, it is definitely an issue with conflicting onboard and discreet graphics. After some more looking, I noticed that there was a recurring driver error when I tried doing the "unclean" install. After the clean install, Windows installed the correct drivers and everything works fine. So, this may not be an answer you want, but its the one I can give!

If you're having troubles getting to the recovery screen, try only using onboard graphics in your BIOS. While you set up -- that may let it POST into recovery. Unfortunately, for us "Day 1'ers," we have to jerry rig our..well..rigs at times.

I think I have a similar issue. Currently I have a z87 msi mpower mobo and dual msi gtx 970s SLI. After completing the win 10 installation I made it to the desktop and noticed the resolution was off (as many have already stated). I opened nvidia, despite having doing the win 10 update prior to installing win10, and tried to update the graphics drivers. The update failed and nvidia said that my computer must restart before completing it. Upon restarting came the black screen of death.

I get normal startup on my pc up until the windows logo and the spinning dots. I have 2 monitors and I think I've tried everything that's been stated so far in this thread. I've unplugged them from my dedicated gpus and plugged in one via hdmi to my on board graphics but I get no video at all. My monitor receives no signal when I do this. I would think this is normal if you don't have the on board graphics selected in your bios. I've gone into my bios to ensure that multimonitor display was disabled. It was already disabled when I entered the bios.

Basically, what I'm getting at is I think I need to disable my dedicated graphics cards and enable the on board graphics within the bios. Unfortunately, I've been unable to do so thus far. Since I also have a gaming mobo I was wondering if you could go a little more in depth as to where you found this option in yours. I'm fully aware that our bios are going to be different but if you could explain it a little further, I hope I can find some similarities in mine.

have you tried booting with only a single monitor connected via DVI to your top graphics card, that is, the card located in your primary PCI16 slot?

I doubt it will help; your problem does sound different than mine. I never even got the spinning dots. It was a black screen right from the start of reboot.

Yes I have. I've tried each of my monitors that way as well as trying to use an hdmi on the primary gpu rather than the vga. Unfortunately there is no change. The only difference I've had is plugging my monitor into the onboard gpu which then gives me no video signal at all.

When you used the HDMI cable or VGA cable, did you remember to change the input source in your monitor's settings?

Yes sir I did. The monitor automatically detects the input source and changes to that source but I also tried switching through the different sources just to verify that none of them were receiving signal.
