    Clean install

    Hi

All the info I have found on a clean install has been about the Insider Preview, when the official upgrade is available at the end of July, will I be able to do a clean install?

    Thanks

My understanding is if you want the free version that will be available for 1 year you have to get it while booted into a supported version of Windows, either 7 with SP1 or 8.1 [not 8.0]. Supposedly later on you can do a clean re-install.

    Hi

I will be doing it while in W8.1 update but if I cannot then use the downloaded file to do a clean install I will have to do a clean install of W8.1 and update it, but if I can do a clean install using the W10 file, I would prefer to do that.

    Anyone know for sure?

    Thanks

The downloaded file while inside Win8.1 will be the one that Windows Update will use to do an in-place update to Win10.

To do a clean install, you need an ISO, and we don't know for sure when those will be available -- yet.

    Okay, thanks for your help.

Of course you can cook your own ISO with ESDtoISO. How it will work with the serial number in the bios is something I am trying to find out. Dell site tells me my laptop is not supported by Windows 10, though it came with Windows 8.1 about a year ago.... It is still up in the air...
