Will I lose my data, settings, and programs if I upgrade to Windows 10

I am planning on reserving Windows 10 on my Windows 8.1 computer and I wanted to know if I will lose everything.

Hello Zelda, and welcome to Ten Forums.

When you upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, you keep Windows settings, personal files, and most apps.

The tutorial below will help give you more details about what to expect with an upgrade. :)

The safe way would be backing up programs and data to an image. Or clone to another hard drive if you got one.
using easeus todo backup or clonezilla. One is freeware, and one is open-source software.

What Molyy said. You just never know what might go wrong. I recently upgraded my 8.1 to 10 (10166) and did not lose any data and/or programs, but I did clone my original 8.1 to a second hard drive, and also kept a system image on and external drive...just to be safe.

Thank you for answering everyone. I have upgraded a couple ago and have not lost anything and seems to be running just fine. Thanks for letting me know everyone.
