    10166 won't install over 10162

I've tried several times to install build 10166 over my current build (10162). Each time I get the same error (irql_not_less_or_equal) after about 35% of the upgrading process.

I've tried to run the problem solver for Windows Update without any luck, and I also cleared the Windows Software Distribution folder without any luck.

What should be my next step?

    1. From Admin Command Prompt: cleammgr
    2. From Admin Command Prompt, Try:
      Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup
      dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
      sfc /scannow
    3. Win+R ->Msconfig->Boot->Advanced Options. Put a check on Maximum memory and use: 4096
to update to 10166. If it works, set to: 8196, let it run for a while. If works, uncheck Maximum memory.
    4. If step 2 fails or giving any errors. Try to run: Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

    Follow topgundcp's suggestions, and add

    5. If you're running Anti-Virus software other than MS Defender, disable it.

    6. Launch an elevated Command Prompt and run
    Chkdsk /f WindowsDriveLetter:

For example, if Windows is installed on the C partition (most common)
    Chkdsk /f C:

If you're asked to check the disk at next boot, answer yes and restart your machine. This might run for a while, so plan your time to run it.

Thanks for all your help so far.

I have followed the steps to the letter, now my problem is that Windows won't let me update to 10166 - Windows Update says that there aren't any new updates for my computer. Go figure

It took a few minutes for Windows to catch up on my machine ... maybe 10 or 20 minutes, but I was eventually offered 10.0.166.

Note that things are changing fast: Preview builds, ISOs, and activation ...

Well, I found a 10166 ISO online and downloaded it. New fault has appeared:
    0xC1900101 - 0x30018
The installation failed in the FIRST_BOOT phase with an error during SYSREP operation.
I also got the fault message "CANCEL_STATE_IN_COMPLETED_IRP".

    What's wrong this time?

Not offical ISO probably. Better to use what you had and try to repair ir, but ... MS is temporarily disabling Updates, ISOs and activation starting sometime today - 14 July 2015

I suggest reinstalling using the official 10.0.162 ISO while it's still available.

Then members can try to help solve any issues that aren't from a non-MS ISO.

I downloaded the 10162 ISO from Microsoft and tried to upgrade over the build I have (10162) not to lose any personal settings.
    The following error appears:

    0xC1900101 - 0x3000D
The installation failed in the FIRST_BOOT phase with an error during MIGRATE_DATA operation.

What should be my next step?
