upgraded my laptop to a new crucial 500gb NVMe m.2 ssd

HI all so i upgraded my laptops 128GB SSD to a new crucial 500gb NVMe m.2 ssd P2 version, i used Macrium Reflect 7 to Clone my C drive, everything went well, i did have to stop errors the first time i tried to boot from it, but that has resolved it self and has not shown its ugly head again. not sure what that was about, But i do notice its relatively slower coming out of sleep mode now, any reason why and what to look for ? . that's really the only annoyance i see. the original drive was a LITE-ON 128GB model CV8-8E128-HP. other than that everything works a ok, my m.2 slot is duel working with both newer and older m.2 drives made sure before i upgraded.

anyone have any ideas ?? Also seem the crucial storage sense program is reporting the wrong Temp values ??

What exactly does this mean? Just that the new drive works right?

The only suggestion I have (though not a very simple fix) is to do a Clean Install. Though I know that is not an easy task for most.

Means that it supports The older SSD SATA 3 style M.2 drives and the newer NVME m.2 , its a duel slot for both older style and newer NVME ones. i could do a clean install but only issue i have seen is the slow coming out of sleep mode and kind of strange . but that's it otherwise it functions fine.

Gotcha, it was just the way you put it that was weird to me. It's an M-Key slot, which will fit an older M.2 SATA B&M Key Drive and a newer M Key NVMe Drive. And I think there were some B&M Key NVMe drives also, but the future is M Key NVMe and I would assume some B&M Key SATA stuff will be around for a long time too. Hopefully someone will come up with an answer for you on Sleep Mode Return.

Is this happening while using power supply or on battery?

Did you install the Crucial Storage Executive honestly though it's more likely some settings. This will allow you to check if you have the current firmware for the ssd.

There is a bios update that mentions some new support for certain ssd's from "Oct 7, 2019" Unlikely fix too but thought I would point that out.

i tend to keep it plugged in 100% of time as i bought it used and the battery is les than adequate due to whoever owning it before battery practice. i mean it last a good 3 hours off it but i tend to be on it all day due to my work so its just plugged in, and taken off about once a month to discharge to 50%. so yes it happens on plugged in AC mode. i will check tonight if it happens on battery or not.

yea i have that storage executive stuff it does seem to be on the latest firmware . also i do have the latest bios but yeah it makes no difference.

i did notice that coming out of sleep mode windows seems to check all back up drivers i have plugged into my doc. maybe its just that causing it although i don't think it did that before, maybe something new in the windows update i did a while back.

What's "doc", you mean Docking station?

What version of 10 are you on? I don't see any real good answers on the net, but your idea that this doc is causing it seems plausible. Maybe you could put those Drivers somewhere else?

"HibernationDisabling Hibernation is even easier. You do not want to do this if you have a laptop as Hibernation is essential when a laptop's battery loses charge and the system needs to safely save it's state. If you have a laptop skip disabling Hibernation and instead disable Fast Startup and Hybrid Sleep if you are having issues."

yea docking station. i may have another issue i opened that storage since and it reported it went above temperature threshold , but had some ridiculous figure in there. i'm not sure if its reliable , i shut down the laptop, and turned it back on and now its reporting fine, how to tell if that was real or not? anyway to do a smart test on the drive itself to make sure?

so yes i meant docking station to test that i unplugged them, made no difference, i'm on version 20H2 os build 19042.610 . the above temp threshold never reappeared, i opened the laptop and it was not even hot the NVME which proves it was not above temp threshold. i'm not sure what that program was doing, but now it says its fine, and crystal disk info reports a ok temp as well. so that was bazar. Is there a way to test the drive smart info to really make sure it is indeed ok. anyhow thanks for the help and god bless.

I must have a defective drive, or maybe there software is reading the temp sensor wrong but no way in heck is my drive 655367C it would melted down LOL. i'm using there software Crucial Storage Executive not sure where its getting this info from but crystal disck info reports it 35F so i'm more app to believe that. Do you think i should give crucial a call on monday and see if they think i need to RMA? or do you think its just a not reading a sensor right or something , but very strange.

There should be a SMART Report in the tool. Basically if the drive says GOOD or something to that effect than that is smart telling you it is all good. It doesn't hurt to look at the smart values to make sure you got a new drive: Power On hours, Startups etc.

no way in heck is my drive 655367C
    Maybe is was 65C?

I do think it is a mistake but...keep a watch on it with the crucial tool. If there is an issue report to crucial. With 20H2 who knows what is going to happen. Maybe crucial needs to make some changes for 20H2.

NVMe Drives do tend to run hot as there is no heatsink. 2.5" drives have the housing to dissipate heat and they are only sata, so there is not as much heat produced as nvme.

When I move my OS to a new drive with Macrium I find I have less problems doing a Image restore to the new drive instead of using the Clone option.

I'm very curious to follow your results if you don't mind. So feel free to report as often as you like. These drives do run hot if used hard and in that event it may be a good idea to use a heatsink. But if not running it all that hard maybe not necessary.
