MS wants as many people as possible on 10. Why make it easy to continue using 7 or 8?

I think you could well be correct on this. Just spotted this,

And Windows Update is one of the 'sacrifices.
I followed up to make sure my information was correct.....
Home users will lose control over Windows Update - those installs will get updates automagically.
Pro and Enterprise install can delay (as well as CBB), but not deny updates.
Windows 10 Specifications - Microsoft
Feature deprecation section
- If you have Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows 8 Pro with Media Center, or Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center and you install Windows 10, Windows Media Center will be removed.
- Watching DVDs requires separate playback software
- Windows 7 desktop gadgets will be removed as part of installing Windows 10.
- Windows 10 Home users will have updates from Windows Update automatically available. Windows 10 Pro and Windows 10 Enterprise users will have the ability to defer updates.
- Solitaire, Minesweeper, and Hearts Games that come pre-installed on Windows 7 will be removed as part of installing the Windows 10 upgrade. Microsoft has released our version of Solitaire and Minesweeper called the “Microsoft Solitaire Collection” and “Microsoft Minesweeper.”
- If you have a USB floppy drive, you will need to download the latest driver from Windows Update or from the manufacturer's website.
- If you have Windows Live Essentials installed on your system, the OneDrive application is removed and replaced with the inbox version of OneDrive.
My bwain herts ! :)
My apologies.
You must have missed the memo: Create installation media for Windows 8.1
I believe this is widely mis-reported and misunderstood. I don't think there will be new keys. You will simply be using your existing Windows 7 or Windows 8.x key with Windows 10. If you do an upgrade of Windows 10 today from Windows 7 Home, and then use the key finder, it returns your Windows 7 key, and I believe that is exactly how it will work after RTM.
Not on my install, Windows 7 to 10074 > 10122 > 10130. The listed "Installed key" does not match the one listed as "Original key". I'm not saying your wrong, just an observation is all. If you have any info on this please post a link. I'd also like to know how its going to handle when there is an embedded key but its not the key in use. Like if you upgraded an OEM install to Pro or added Media Center. Is your Media Center key going to be your windows 10 key?
Also, Windows 7 OEM SLP installs use a common key across PC's from the same manufacturer. Example, all Dells with Windows 7 Home premium use the same OEM key? How is that going to work, multiple Windows 10 installs all with the same key?

Windows 7 OEM SLP installs do not activate online, Windows 10 will. What's to stop anyone from using that OEM key to install Windows 10 on any PC? Windows 8 PC's with embedded keys each have a unique key all their own. Windows 7 OEM PC's don't.
EDIT: I'm thinking its going to ask for the key on the COA sticker. That will be a unique key for that PC.
