You take an image of your C: drive first. That is the best way of reverting to the original. Imaging should be part of a regular backup regime, anyway.

You should also create OEM recovery discs if you haven't already. The PC mfr web site or manual has the information on how to do that - each mfr has a different process. There is usually an item for the process in your start menu.
And backup your personal data.
- imaging will create that backup if you include the locations. It's often easier to do a copy of the files and then you have ready access to them. You can do both

Aomei, EaseUS and Macrium all allow individual files to be extracted form the image so that is handy as well.

I agree with one caveat. A back should not be 'local' to the machine. Offline or even offsite.

The copy of your personal data can be a 'working' copy - but a backup ..... well, you get it

win10 has its own support to restore win 7 backup, so you can use normal win 7 backup option to do it - ofc, its long goner if you delete any partitions :)
