Anniversary update and problem Realtel Audio driver

I have a new Lenovo Ideapad 500 15isk with i5 processor, 12 GB RAM, a 1 TB hard drive and running Windows 10 Home.

I have just been urged to install the Anniversary Update but I always run into the same problem. After downloading the update the update starts but at some point in the process it tells Me that the Realtek High Definition Audio Driver is not Windows 10 compatible (even though it has worked without problem in the past).

It then asks me to uninstall the driver, which I agree to and the driver is then (apparently) uninstalled. A restart is requested but after the restart the driver still appears to be there and the next attempt at installing the Anniversary Update fails at the same point.

I have tried to manually remove the driver without success and I have tried to update the diver but changes nothing changes and the same error always occurs.

How can I overcome this impasse?

Hi, I use that driver, but had no problems with the upgrade or subsequent updates.

    Basics- let's run chkdsk.
    From an admin command prompt
[Windows key + X, click command prompt (admin)]
    chkdsk C: /F
Your PC will need to restart.
Make sure the result is clear or fixed- else do not proceed.
Post back the result, which you can get after a restart as follows:

I have tried to manually remove the driver without success

Tick the box 'Delete the driver..'

    What happens?

It may be that the copy of the driver you have doesn't comply with the driver signing rules which have become more stringent.

Meanwhile, if you haven't already done so, download the iso or use the media creation tool to create a physical bootable AU medium (DVD or flash drive.

    This is useful to have
    a. for repeat attempts & save download time
    b. for multiple PCs
    c. for its recovery features
    d. avoid issues some experience with Windows update.

I performed a chkdsk exactly as instructed and it was performed after a computer restart.

However I am still having no joy. Even if I allow the update software to remove the driver or remove it myself (as described above) I still get the same error message telling me that the Realtek High Def Driver is incompatible with Windows 10 and must be removed.

It looks like the driver is automatically reloaded at a system reboot.

I'm hoping Lenovo can be od some help.

Hi, Certainly if you have an apparent incompatibility between Realtek supplied software and '10 that's a good idea.

Clearly sthg is going wrong in that process, suggesting an underlying problem. Chkdsk passed, but has had to make corrections.

    I would now try:
Open an elevated (admin) command prompt
    Run
    SFC /SCANNOW

    After that:
You could try downloading Geek uninstaller. Run it, search for Realtek.
Rt click Hd Audio, click uninstall, then check and approve the scan results.
Restart and see if it's reinstalled.

Another approach you could take is to replace the Lenovo version of the Realtek driver with one from Realtek:
    Realtek

Accept the Chinglish worded terms, and you should see this:

    You want the bottom one.

I have this installed on my laptop, and I found I gained the 'Enhancements' tabs which were previously not present using my manufacturer's version.

Also, this definitely works with Win 10.
