Going back to EUFI in bios after installation of Windows 10 Education

My laptop is a msi gp60 leapord.

My hard drive recently broke on this laptop, so i replaced it and freshly installed a new OS. An IT tech support installed the new OS, but while he was installing it, I noticed he switched to Legacy mode in the bios.

Now the problem is, when I go back to UEFI in the bios, my computer boots with this message:

Searching for media presence...
Media present...
Start with IPV4. (along those lines)

And it won't do anything after that. So basically I can only boot with Legacy. And Legacy is very slow when trying to resume windows and that really bothers me.

Also, my computer originally came with Windows 8.1.

Is there any way to get my computer to boot in UEFI?

The tech did not disable the Intel Boot Rom on the NIC from trying to boot , not sure how he missed that unless he never turned off the Boot logo screen , again a tech should have....to see if there were issues.... disable it in the bios and see if that helps cos you may need to reinstall windows if you didnt install it in UEFI mode....

Boot into UEFI mode or legacy BIOS-compatibility mode when installing Windows from your USB, DVD, or network location

If you install Windows using the wrong mode, you won’t be able to use the features of that firmware mode without reformatting the drive.

How did you end up with the Education version? If you originally did the free upgrade you should have ended up with Home or Pro, not Education. Is it activated?
As already mentioned, you'll have to reinstall to go back to UEFI.

I got the education version because my University gives all students free copies of Windows 10 Education.


And thanks for the advice everyone, seems that I will need to reinstall in UEFI. I have no idea why he chose legacy, when he was looking at the boot order, I noticed him say "oh yeah legacy", not sure why lol.

because some laptops wont boot off USB or CD if Fastboot or Secure Boot are on , he should of disabled those not the UEFI

If he installed MBR there wont be an EFI Partition , Win10 will put the Boot Code in a Folder Called Boot on C instead I beleive

Not sure about all laptops , would depend on the Bios , but a recent Lenovo I worked on would not Boot ANY USB or CD if SecureBoot was on even after changing the boot order, I admit it had me stumped at 1st .... thank goodness for Google :)
