Installing an OEM

I am installing an OEM 10 Pro and mu updates seem to be taking a very long time to download as opposed to how the ISO installs took.

The other thing I noticed was that when I was at the start the listings had all UK options the one for date and time I picked the US and language I picked US but the top option I can't remember what it was only had the UK as it.

Now I am stuck with no internet as the driver for WLAN for that machine is not taking and I have tire both options.

Any ideas please??

Edit I meant to ask activation says I have digital entitlement but do I use the code on the OEM packaging because I don't want to use my 7 Pro key.

I think you need to consult yourself .

Your post is fairly confusing.

1) what is a mu update

2) The top language only sets the default entries lower. Besides with in reason US English has enough similarities to UK english, I am sure you will be able to work it out .

3) WLAN option has nothing to do with language selection. Have you tried direct ethernet LAN connection?

4) Use 10 pro key to activate it if you want to use 7 pro on another pc.

The UK wasn't a big deal just curious a most of the OEM's I have bought out here have all been US based

The activation I wanted to keep the code for 7 Pro in the BIOS or wherever it's kept these days because I have 7 Pro on the original drive - I have installed the 10 on a new driver from the OEM as I was under the impression that one could use either then - just means swapping out the drives?? ie that I would have two codes stored on that machine.

No need to use 10 pro key - save it for another device. The 7 licence is not in bios but on your hard disk.

When you upgraded, you go a digital licence. That has been registered with MS - again not in bios.

You can use 7 or 10 upgraded from 7 without any issues, but strictly to comply with EULA, you can only have one install on pc at same time. As you are just swapping drives, you are in compliance with EULA.

Hmm see what I have done is take out the drive that came with the machine with 7 Pro preinstalled by the seller and put in a new SSD and installed from the 10 Pro OEM to it. I did this because I am shortly travelling overseas and wanted to keep the 7 Pro intact - (and not directly upgrade from it, because I could have done that weeks ago) - and just use the 10 Pro install on the separate drive for the time being then drop the 7 Pro back in because that is where most of my stuff is.

So if I do go ahead with the key for the separate 10 Pro install on a separate drive then will I not be able to go back and swap in the the old 7 Pro drive?? It is all very convoluted it seems to me because in my mind I have paid for two keys from Microsoft - one for the install that came with the machine and one that I bought from a reputable computer parts seller.
I cannot think of any reason why it really matters to them which drive I use in the machine as both are paid for genuine copies - not the free upgrade offer at all and both have their own dedicated codes/keys?

In other words does Microsoft not allow two keys of different OS's to be on the same machine at the same time and each one be able to be used as one wishes because again in my simple mind that would make a nonsense of a dual boot??

For an example it would be like having two cars one Ford and one Mazda and only having one driving licence as one does and then finding that the driving licence only allowed you to drive one of those cars and a specific one of those cars at that.

Or am I being a little obtuse or simple minded??

I see what you mean. But you have 2 legal windows lic. If one morning you wake up (you have been running W10) and want to run Windows 7, rip out the W10 drive and replace it with the W7 drive. Boot it and run Win 7.

Yes mate I am going to try that this morning but I have been thinking about it overnight and the copy I have bought (pics attached) are I think for when one builds a machine and maybe not for just adding to a machine that has 7 embedded in some firmware somewhere and if I enter that code I have blotted out am just a bit concerned that it will replaces the 7 code.
As I mentioned earlier I am not game to do that until after I get back form my trip because 7 works perfectly for me as is and I do like taking part in that forum - which I know you can from here but snipping pics for examples is not the same.

I know they have to make money like us all but sometimes it gets a little exasperating for us plebs.
