Running out of ideas, I suppose.
Does it really have the 64 bit version of Windows 7 on it? Seems unlikely for an old PC like that. I look back over the thread, and see that you don't specify.
If it's 32 bit, it cannot be upgraded directly to Win 10 X64. My apologies if this is an insult, although it isn't intended that way.
Suggestion: upgrade it to X86 (32 bit). You may then clean install X64 in the future, and Microsoft's servers will activate it online. (The "digital entitlement" is valid for either version.)

In post #10 I mentioned that it was 64-bit. I don't have a copy of 32-bit Win7.
The Celeron 336 is a full 64-bit CPU.

If Windows 10 is so all-fired great, why does it tell me that my CPU doesn't support it when it quite obviously does (or it's giving me a false error message to mask something else).

I have some difficulties to understand you. You complain that nobody wants to help you, when actually you have already been offered a valid workaround.
With a bit spontaneity you had already found Windows 10 specifications and requirements and read that your issue only involves 64 bit Windows, support for PrefetchW and LAHF/SAHF is not required if you install 32 bit Windows.
Is you being right and Windows setup being wrong about support for PrefetchW and LAHF/SAHF so important to you that you rather miss the free upgrade than get it done by installing 32 bit Windows now and when it's activated, start looking for solution for your issue? You have then all time in the world to clean install 64 bit, your PC being already digitally activated.

It has nothing to do with "being right or wrong". I specifically stated that I had a copy of 64-bit Win10 and I was looking for a way to install (upgrade the Win 7 32-bit) if I could. So I will miss my chance to upgrade this "junk PC"...big deal.
My point was that I getting conflicting information about the eligibility of this PC to run Win10 64-bit...that's all I had. No big loss. I thought maybe someone on this excellent forum might have some insight.
