UEFI Blockage to Repair and Restore

I have a CD with a clean copy of Win 10 V1511 Build 10586. When I boot from the CD, the installation on my current boot drive (c:\) fails with: "Unsupported layout for UEFI firmware" "Needs UEFI V 2.3.1, Errata B. "
Thinking that I needed to update the UEFI version for my ASUS Z97-A, I put the newest official .CAP file on a FAT32 flash drive. Then I got the message "not a proper BIOS file"
I have a clean SSD drive where I could put a clean version of Win 10, but I worry that the UEFI problems would just travel with any attempted OS move.
I'm kind of paralyzed with the UEFI situation. I'd appreciate any ideas for ways to break out of the situation.

    1. A Windows 10 ISO does not fit onto a CD, so you did something wrong there.

    2. I own an Asus Z 97A motherboard and I have never done a BIOS update, it is compatible with Windows 10 right out of the box.

You need to create a viable media for your Windows 10 ISO that works properly. Download a new ISO using Microsoft's Media Creation Tool and then put it on a DVD or a USB stick and you will be good to go.

    DVD...not CD

Got my terminology scrambled, I'm using the original (November '15 ?) ISO burned to a DVD. I'll burn another disc and try that. I'm still puzzled by the UEFI error I'm getting. Thanks for the ideas.

You can go into your BIOS and reset your Asus motherboard to the original factory settings. If you are still having problems then there are plenty of folks here that can assist you.

    Good luck.
