Please check in your root ( C:\ ) drive, showing hidden files, look for a folder named $WINDOWS.~BT.
Find the sub-folder Sources. In the Sources folder, look for the file install.esd. Let me know if you have that file. If not, see if you have it in the $Windows.~WS folder or subfolder. If not Please copy the $Windows.~WS\Sources\Panther\setuperr.log file to your desktop, then paste it here.

There is no install.esd file in the locations you suggested.
the log file seems to indicate somethings wrong .... not sure what it means. Thanks for helping.

Also ... the windows-ws directory is untouched since January. Only the BT directory shows recent action.

Okay. Did you grab your W7 key, and you have it written down now?

Also, please fill in your system specs as detailed as possible, so we can have them handy when looking at any reply in the thread.

Yes, but windows 10 install doesn't like it when I tried to do a clean win10 install. I typed in the W7 key. I hesitate to install windows 10 without proper key as it would be a waste of time. Then I have to re-install windows 7 from the image file I made.

Based on what I am seeing here, Acer will not support drivers for an upgrade to W10 on this unit.
    Windows 10 Upgrade

The only thing I can recommend you try at this point, is to wipe the HDD clean, do an offline install from scratch, and then after (if) W10 is installed, input the key to activate. You have your image to restore if it doesn't work, so it's worth a try. But it's not looking too good. Sorry.

I'm puzzled, however, on why I can't seem to go back to windows 7 as it was prior to the attempted upgrade. My system is now frozen for which no additional window 7 updates will be allowed. That creates a security risk over time.

If you image your W7 back on to the thing, and use the link I posted in post #17, you can turn off the W10 upgrade, and keep it on W7. Then look here, on how to reset Windows Update in Windows 7:
Windows Update - Reset - Windows 7 Help Forums

Maybe that will get things sorted.

I had a system that would not take the latest build - hung at 92/93% every time. I even let it go overnight; no joy. Finally ended up troubleshooting that I had failing USB port(s) and that is what stopped it.
How did you determine it was the USB port? Was it a driver issue or actually the hardware?

Did you find anything in one of the Win 10 install logs?
