You might want to create a local account when you install Win10 and then add the bells and whistles later.
That's pretty much what I did. I kept MS off my box as much as possible and switched to MS account later, last thing. They do try to hide the no-MS options, though. Look for the options in micro print !!

I am now trying a Windows 10 build 9926 and do a build to build upgrade from it to 10041:

Install 9926 and lay 10041 over top.

Installing 10041 over 9926 did work but this certainly isn't a fresh install. Still looking for answers. I am aslso opening a Microsoft Technet Ticket.

    Good it eventually worked :)

Did you unplug the second monitor like @wildByDesign said?

I've been trying to install 9841 Server today in a VM (to test EFI etc) and was getting stuck on "Checking connection" screen (same as you had in one of your pictures) using EFI boot but not BIOS until I downloaded the ISO again when it started working.

Some sort of driver issue but I don't know how to analyse it.

The 'second' monitor that is seen is the actual laptop monitor. I have another(bigger monitor) that is duplicating the screen.
