Windows 10 installed but it is not there

I upgraded to Windows 10 from 8.1 on my Sony vaio laptop. It downloaded OK then started installation which took an hour or so and then I got my startup window with no message of any kind. The Home screen looked the same and when I checked I still have 8.1. What happened?

    Hello pchoho,

This scenario can occur when during the installation some aspect of the W10 update fails and so it reverts back to your previous windows version. Have a look at your update history to see if there are any messages or error codes.

    Hi philc43,
Thanks for prompt reply. Have checked history and I see it failed with error C1900101. Searching Microsoft portal for help on this but haven't found anything yet!

Does it also have a 0x2000B or something similar?
It should read for example C1900101 0x200017.

Look at Reliability History in Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Security and Maintenance\Reliability Monitor
Then right click the error and see if you can find the complete error code.

It was a shot. I have forgotten that it's called something different. One of the big improvements with Win10 is all real errors and updates(WU or from store) are shown, not like in Win7 & 8.

Thanks for trying! It looks as though it is probably a driver issue and I will pursue that.

Yes it could be a driver issue....or a AV issue, some AV programs should be uninstalled before upgrading to Windows 10, as they can interfere with the upgrade process.
