Windows 10 update - painfully slow

Never seen this issue with Windows 7; I'm using a 10Mb connection which works fine when downloading anything else, but Windows Update is stuck on 2% for the past hour. Any help appreciated,

    P.

Hi, my personal preference is to
    a. create a disk image as backup (highly recommended)
    b. download the ISO and create the installation medium
    c. disable any antivirus/firewall and anything that changes the theme or appearance
    d. install without downloading latest updates
    e. check the installation
    f. when happy create a new disk image (and keep it up to date periodically thereafter).

That separates update and download issues, and means I can repeat the update if necessary afterwards, and use the installation medium for repair actions.
