    what changed with 1903?

    Hi all,
I just got my update to 1903.
It uninstalled an unsigned driver that I reinstalled and the same with the windows 7 games.
No big deal, also just reinstalled. It made some changes to the task bar and start button, looks nice, but what has changed?? I did not noticed anything new.

Do you have Home? If so, the ability to pause update for up to 35 days is new...

    what changed with 1903?-1903-pause-updates-home.png

...another significant change is that the Search and Cortana functions have been separated.

My personal favourite is that you can now choose the default tab that Task Manager opens to.

    What's new? Nothing!

As before you risk a bricked system. Or you just might get lucky.

None of that is new. It's the same as the last update. And the one before that. And the one before that.

I followed that link to the 1903 improvements list.
    Here's my tongue-in-cheek take ...
-- New Windows Update features that put customers more in control of updates (Build 18362)
This is not new. It's old. We had that for two decades before it was taken away.
    -- Emoji 12.0 Update (Build 18348)

-- Improving Gaming on Windows 10 (Build 18342)
My games work just fine. Don't mess with them.

    Huh?
-- Improving Windows light theme (Build 18323)

-- The next step in improving Start reliability (Build 18317)
    What exactly was broken?
-- A Better Font management experience in Settings (Build 18317)
I don't need to manage fonts. Do you? What makes you think that we need to?
-- A simpler Windows Insider Program Settings page (Build 18317)
I'm an outsider. Just like several hundred million others. Really. As far outside as possible.
    - Reserving disk space to keep Windows 10 up to date (Build 18312)
    Why?

A bricked system? WTF. . If you do a fresh install, you are likely not to encounter problems. Those who choose to just "update" without doing a fresh install will likely encounter BSOD's due to files becoming corrupted.

As for my rant above ... I must explain. I don't mind that MS is throwing in all this crap. Maybe somebody else needs it.

But to force me to update for crap that I will never need is intensely stupid.

And to think that if I don't (eventually) update I'll go off support just because I don't have crap that I don't want, don't use, and don't need.

OK ... there is one feature that might be useful: "Put customers more in control of updates."
If that means that I can shut off updates once and for all then ... GREAT!
Then I won't have to get my next farcical update until I buy a new computer ... in about five years.

    Hmm...

Some of it is crap, like the "Blur Effect" and others like the "DPI Improvements" are welcome.
I'll say it 20 times and say it again - MS must first work on functionality/stability and stop the hare-brained embellishments!

And yes... nothing like a clean install - where possible.

Thanks to all, so my first impression was correct, no updates that affect me or the masses who never know what comes from MS and just get told to restart the computer. To Bree, thanks for the link, I will read it later to see if there is something I need or want.

Agreed. But in my C: partition, I install only Windows + programs, and it's still 140 GB!!. That's a lot of big, fat programs with lots of dll's, etc. All my data files, photos, music, and even program install files, those all all installed on other partitions. If there was free and easy and reliable way to do this fresh install but still copy over all my programs, config settings, APPDATA folder, etc., then I would be all in favor of doing a fresh install twice a year.

This past January, due to my own dumb mistakes, I had to do a fresh install of Windows + programs. Took over two full days, not exactly a fun way to spend time.
