Yes to both questions. As long as you install the same version you activated on that computer previously then it will automatically active if you reinstall.

What was the previous version of Windows? For Windows 7 Starter, Home Basic, Home Premium and Windows 8.1 you need Windows 10 Home. For Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate and Windows 8.1 Pro you need Windows 10 Pro. If unsure, install Home and see. If it doesn't activate automatically, format and clean-install Windows 10 Pro.

For Vista, upgrade to Windows 7 first.

For XP upgrade to Vista then Windows 7 first.

For 98, forget about it! Probably your computer is too old....

    :)

You see, that's the thing... I've forgotten my previous version of Windows xD However, I have a strong feeling it was Windows 8.1 Pro.

You can create a Win 10 Rescue disc or flash drive then boot it and run ShowkeyPlus.

Windows 10 Recovery Tools - Bootable Rescue Disk - Windows 10 Forums

Click on Show key from backup, point it to your boot drive and it should show you the key info from there which will tell you what version it was.
