Windows 10 TP Repair and Recovery Features

I'm currently running the 10 TP in a virtual machine. I see that the various boot and repair options can be accessed by <shift> Restart from the desktop, however F8 during boot doesn't appear to work. Can someone who is actually running this on the hardware check that? Is there a way to get into SAFE mode and repair options on systems that can't boot to the desktop? This is problematic on "8" and I'm hoping there will be better options on "10" including booting the installation DVD as can be done in "7". TIA
