Can't upgrade from preview to final no update found

    Hey guys,

Installed the windows 10 preview on my IMac a while back and was upgrading fine and then it stopped updating as the updates would fail constantly, and now my IMac is still on build 10162. It was running fine but the time has come and my computer will be rendered useless in a matter of days(your pc will restart every few hours and will eventually fail to start if you don't upgrade to the latest version)... Windows update doesn't detect any updates, the preview builds option in settings is completely GONE and there is no way at all to update (at least not without losing everything i guess ) How can I upgrade my computer to the final version of windows 10 and keep all my data?

    Thanks for helping,

    nnvt

Download the RTM ISO of Windows 10 that matches exactly the version you have installed now (Pro, Home, "N", Single Language, etc.) Then mount the ISO or burn it to DVD or USB and run setup.exe from inside it.

Even if you have the DVD-ROM it may not let you upgrade a Preview version to RTM. In that case you have to cheat. Copy all the files to a folder, say C:\W10SETUP. Then go to the sources folder and open the file cversion.ini with Notepad. You should change both values to the build you have, in your case, 10162 and save. Now setup should allow you to upgrade your preview version to RTM. I managed to upgrade Insider's Preview version to Windows 10 Pro RTM this way. If you don't know which version you have, press Win+R to start a run dialog and type winver and press OK. This will show you the exact Windows version and build number. After this you will have to activate Windows of course... but you can use it for 30 days until you decide to buy a license. All your data and programs will be preserved as in any upgrade.
