Hello Alex, welcome to Ten Forums,
Files will remain, as far as programs are concerned, if they are not compatible with 10( usually very old ones) they won't make it.
Read this tutorial from @Brink thoroughly through(specially the BLUE & RED boxes): Windows 10 - Upgrade Installation

You're welcome. During the preview and for the final, I have tested the upgrade install many times from a windows 7 system image, and lost only speccy(which because of program issues reading temps causes BSOD's on some systems) and of course Media Center(not Media Player).

If you want to see your temps, you can us RealTemp. I keep it in my system tray so I can always see what my temps are. I set it to start at boot.

    I really liked Speccy.

To be safe, BEFORE you do the upgrade, you should seriously consider using an imaging/restore program like Macrium Reflect to image off your system to an external drive:

Macrium Reflect (MR) provides a FREE version that can be used to image and restore partitions or entire drives.

What I recommend is the following:
    1) Download and install Macrium Reflect (MR)
    2) Run MR and choose the option: "Create an image of the partition(s) required to backup and restore Windows" to write a full backup to an external drive
    3) Use the option to create a boot USB stick or CD

NOW, you have the means to restore a full working system from the external drive in only a few minutes.
